“The survival, promotion, and resilience of the primary sector is a national issue,” emphasized the Minister of Rural Development & Food, Kostas Tsiaras
In the presence of representatives from the political leadership, local government, authorities, institutions, and a large crowd, the opening ceremony of AgroThessaly 2025 was held on Thursday evening, officiated by the Minister of Rural Development & Food, Mr. Kostas Tsiaras.
From the podium of the opening ceremony in Larissa, Mr. Tsiaras underscored the government’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector, particularly in Thessaly. “The survival, promotion, and resilience of the primary sector is a national issue, to which we must all contribute with seriousness and responsibility,” he stated.
From the early afternoon, AgroThessaly 2025 at the Neapolis Covered Market began welcoming visitors of all ages, who flocked to explore the exhibition halls and outdoor areas to discover the latest developments, systems, and machinery that could assist them in their agricultural endeavors.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m., the Mayor of Larissa, Mr. Thanasis Mamacos, arrived at the exhibition, where he toured the event alongside TIF-HELEXPO President, Mr. Anastasios Tzikas, and members of the administration, engaging with exhibitors and professionals from the primary production sector.
The arrival of the Minister of Rural Development & Food just before 7:00 p.m. marked the official commencement of the opening event, which was blessed by His Eminence Metropolitan of Larissa & Tyrnavos Ieronymos.
A National Issue
“For us, it is crucial that exhibitions like AgroΤhessaly do not merely reflect the footprint or interest in the primary sector in our country but rather highlight the specific need for all those engaged in the sector to connect with new technologies and developments. They must integrate these into their production processes to achieve even better results—both for themselves and for the local communities they serve.
I have repeatedly stated that the survival, promotion, and resilience of the primary sector is not a matter of government policy or party interest—it is a national issue. We must all rally around it with seriousness and responsibility.
The ongoing efforts at the Ministry of Rural Development & Food are precisely aimed at keeping our country’s agricultural, livestock, and production sectors alive, creating conditions for resilience in the primary sector, and ensuring that a large segment of society continues to contribute to the benefit of both the sector and the nation as a whole,” stated Mr. Tsiaras in his address.
He also provided a detailed overview of the agricultural programs that have been completed or are currently underway.
Added Value
The Regional Governor of Thessaly, Mr. Dimitris Koureta, emphasized the added value that can be generated by supporting and promoting agri-food products.
“In Thessaly, the situation after storm Daniel is extremely difficult. Crises of this magnitude are not easy to manage, and they will persist unless we recognize the right path forward.
Our collective effort in submitting 12 applications for PDO and PGI product recognition for Thessaly is something the region truly deserves. The basket’ of these products represents an annual turnover of approximately €230 million, according to 2024 figures. Our competitive advantage lies in outward-looking strategies and the added value of our agricultural products.
We must unite our efforts—government, local authorities, municipalities, and institutions—to achieve this goal, and we will remain committed to it,” stated Mr. Koureta.
Strengthening Collaborations
The Mayor of Larissa, Mr. Thanasis Mamacos, highlighted the potential of Agrothessaly to act as a catalyst for agricultural partnerships and collaborations.
“As a municipal authority, we are committed to enhancing Larissa’s outward orientation and establishing our city as a developmental, commercial, and economic hub. Special emphasis is placed on the agri-food sector, which can be a driving force for progress in our region.
This year’s edition has already exceeded all expectations in terms of business and institutional participation—a clear indication that the agricultural community needs a stable reference point, dedicated to the driving force of our region: production.
The National Exhibition for Agriculture and Livestock, AgroΤhessaly, has become even more significant, as it currently serves as a platform for strengthening commercial transactions, partnerships, and collaborations, while also providing vital insights into developments at both the national and European Union levels,” he noted.
The Capital of Regional Exhibitions
“Larissa is the capital of regional exhibitions,” stated TIF-HELEXPO President, Mr. Anastasios Tzikas, in his remarks.
“This year’s AgroΤhessaly is truly sold out. I firmly believe in the power of exhibitions as engines of regional development,” he emphasized.
Earlier, in public statements, Mr. Tzikas expressed his satisfaction with the scale of AgroΤhessaly 2025.
“I believe that in the coming years, AgroΤhessaly will be the leading agricultural exhibition and will compete on equal terms with Agrotica,” he remarked.
